Edward Jacob Hartle was born December 3, 1921, to Ruth (Beck) and Fred Hartle in Humboldt, SD. He graduated in 1940 from Humboldt High School. He joined the Marines in 1945.
He married Dorothy Evelyn Wenbourne on March 30, 1945. They had six children: son, Charles Edward Hartle; daughter, Evelyn Kay (Mike) Hunsaker of Keystone, SD; son, Steve Lynn (Trish) Hartle of Ranchester, WY; daughter Judy Ann Bottjen of Hill City, SD; son, Ricky Dean (Jan) Hartle of Lansford, ND; son, James Lee Hartle; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
His faith in God and his love to those he knew will always be a part of us. His work ethics we still carry today as his love of wildlife, being outdoors, picnics, fishing, rock hunting, and hunting were a part of our growing up. His sense of humor was so wonderful. His family devotion was amazing. He loved to take off on their motorcycle, snowmobile, taking his four-wheeler out in the woods, or in their convertible mustang. He learned computer quickly and used it often. He flew radio-controlled airplanes and had an unbelievable train set that took up two 4x8 sheets of plywood. He made a greenhouse and grew vegetables. He was a member of the American Legion and Christian Motorcycle Association.
Edward Jacob Hartle, 97, Hot Springs, died April 13, 2019, at Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veteran's Home in Hot Springs, SD.
Waiting for him in Heaven are his wife, Dorothy; parents, Fred and Ruth; brother, Donald; sons, Charles and James; grandsons, Casey Dean Hunsaker and Robert Allen Bottjen.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veteran's home with Chaplain Morris Nelson officiating. Inurnment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
