Edward F. McDermott, 81, Rapid City, SD, died Friday, January 5, 2007, at the Bella Vista Nursing Home in Rapid City.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 9, 2007, from noon until 9 p.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until service time at the Chapel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will follow at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.

Eddie was born October 19, 1925 at Mud Butte, SD, to John and Bridget (Fox) McDermott. He married Ruth Wahlfeldt, in Sturgis, on July 29, 1947. For almost 20 years, they owned and operated the Mud Butte Store, where Eddie was appointed the postmaster in 1952. In 1967, they moved to Spearfish and a year later, to Rapid City, where he worked at the Rapid City Post Office until he retired in 1985.

Eddie is survived by Ruth, his wife of 59 years, Rapid City; his children, Owen (Mary) McDermott, Henderson, NV, Dennis (Robin) McDermott, Omaha, NE, Janet (Fred) Brocklehurst, Henderson, NV, Duane McDermott, Rapid City, Randy McDermott, Lenexa, KS, Kristie (Tony) Tays, Rapid City; his brother, Tommie (Betty) McDermott, Sturgis; five grandchildren, Tina, Tricia, Kelli, Ed, James; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Jeremy, Ryan; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters, two nephews and one niece.
