Effie Jeanette Carney, 86, Sturgis passed away, Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at the Monument Health Sturgis Senior Care.
She was born, April 25, 1934, in Farmington, NM, to Fred and Minnie (Wilson) Secrest. Effie went to school in Pierre, SD, receiving her LPN License in 1969. She volunteered with the Sturgis Ambulance for several years, retiring in 1995 from the Ft Meade VA hospital. On November 20, 1970, Effie married Mike Carney; she occasionally went with Mike and they traveled around the country in his 18-wheeler while he was a long-haul trucker. In her spare time, she liked to bowl, bowling in a league for a number of years.
Effie is survived by her husband, Mike; daughter, Renae Olesen; two sons, Tom Olesen, and Todd Carney; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Gene Secrest; and one sister, Punky Barden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Anita Olesen; grandson, Travis Olesen; and one sister, Florence Swesey.
Private family services will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
