Eldon Eugene "Gene" Griffith passed away peacefully at his home on September 28, 2020. Gene was born December 4, 1948 to Ike and Lola May Griffith at their home west of Loveland, CO. He was married for several years and adopted his son, Chris Griffith.
Gene graduated from Loveland High School and joined the United States Airforce, where he served in Thailand for the majority of his four years of service as Sergeant in charge of the supply warehouse. Upon discharge, he went to work at Colorado State University, almost immediately, as their Facilities Warehouse Manager. He retired from there in 2000.
Gene loved to travel, was a talented photographer, and enjoyed woodworking. His travels took him all over the United States and on multiple cruises. In more recent years, Gene enjoyed his time with the numerous nieces and nephews in the Griffith family and their kids.
Preceding Gene in death are his parents, Ike and Lola May Griffith; sister, Susan Taylor; brother-in-law, Neil Taylor; and nephew, Jon Johnson.
He is survived by his sister, Judith Griffith; brother, Steven (Patti) Griffith; uncle, Hunter Griffith; and son, Chris Griffith. He was affectionately known as "Uncle Gene" to these nieces and nephews: Amy (Steve) Jungwirth, Heidi (Tracy) Collins, Todd (Lynnette) Taylor, Russell (Krissy) Johnson, Chris Johnson, Kelli (Zach) Griffith, and Dani (Nick) Traweek, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, 1235 Junction Avenue in Sturgis, with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Private family interment will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Flowers, or donations in lieu of flowers to the VFW, may be sent in care of Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
