Eldon Earl Schroeder, age 78, of Sturgis, died Saturday, June 6, 2015 after a 25 year battle with asthma. Eldon donated his body to science and study at the University of South Dakota, School of Medicine in Vermillion. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Eldon was born December 31, 1936 in Pipestone, MN, the son of Ervin and Margaret (DeMuynck) Schroeder. He attended schools in Clark, SD and obtained his GED while working at Ft. Meade Veterans Hospital in Sturgis in 1962. Eldon served in the Army National Guard from January 1957 to January 1963 and again from December 1973 to July 1974. He was a carpenter in the Black Hills area then worked in the oil industry in various positions in Wyoming and Alaska for 20 years. He was disabled as a result of injuries sustained in an oil field fire in 1988. He is survived by sons, Kevin, Sturgis, Ervin (Bev), Casper, WY and Dean New Hampton, IA; brothers, Marlyn (Rhea), Connell, WA, Dennis (Marlene), Max, ND and Don, Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Shirlee (Martin) Luther, Leroy, KS, Ervina (Gerry) Kramer, Elk River, MN and Margie (Tom) Scheurenbrand, Mitchell, SD; grandchildren, Shane Finn, Clint Finn, Amy Frazey, Evan Schroeder, Stephanie Hansen, and Andrew Schroeder; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; first wife, Doris Sperle Dowling, Rapid City, SD and third wife, Leona Howe Schroeder, Sturgis. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; second wife, Ella Hastings and special friend, Olga Miller . The family requests memorials direct to the Sturgis Regional Hospital Hospice Suite.
