Elizabeth J. Chafee, 92, Spearfish, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday evening with the family present at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 9:00 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Mr. Joe Hobbs and Mr. Loren Coleman officiating. Burial follows at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
Elizabeth was born June 23, 1916 at Sturgis, SD, to William and Anna (Gaer) Behrend. She attended the Lodge School near Hereford, SD, through the 8th grade and Hereford High School for 1 year. She attended one semester of high school in Kirkman, Iowa. She returned to Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1934.
Elizabeth worked at Lorhman's Confectionary for a summer. She married Marvin "Bud" Chafee at Belle Fourche on September 4, 1936. They lived in Sturgis until 1952 when they moved to Iowa for two years. They returned to the Black Hills area in 1955. They followed the construction trade until 1969 and lived in Sheridan, WY until 2001.
She moved to Carlile, WY, and later to Spearfish.
Survivors include three sons, Buddy (Doris) Chafee, Cheyenne, WY, Jack (Neda) Chafee, Carlile, WY, Jim Chafee, China; 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; daughter and son in law, June and Jack Lewis in 1982; 4 brothers, Elmer, Philip, Oliver and Earnie.
A memorial has been established to the Dorsett Home in Spearfish.
