Elizabeth Gail Morris, long time Osage teacher, died Friday, April 6, at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle, Wyo. She was 94. Gail was born Nov. 1, 1912, in Baker, Mont., the third of five daughters of Thomas Settle and Ada Olga Maudy Raske Crow. When she was 14, she graduated from Baker High School with her two older sisters. She was married to Hugh M. Morris on March 11, 1933, at Wibaux, Mont. He preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 1977. They had no children. During World War II, Gail lived in California and on the east coast while Hugh was in the SeaBees. Afterwards Hughs trucking business took them to various locations in Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota before they moved to Upton in 1951. Like her mother before her, Gail was a teacher. After high school, she studied at the University of Montana and Dickinson Teachers College in North Dakota before teaching several years in Fallon County, Montana. In 1959, she graduated from Black Hills Teachers College, Spearfish, S.D. and taught in Osage for many years. There she knew the artist Dave Paulley and his mother. Gail liked to say she bought the first work of art that Dave sold. She enjoyed collecting antiques, crocheting, knitting and playing bridge. She bowled and golfed well into her 80s. In 1996, she was the oldest participant in the Wyoming Senior Olympics. She moved to Newcastle in 2001. In addition to her husband, Gail was preceded in death by her four sisters: Leila Linn, Eloise Hosman, Patty Horton and Barbra Faus. She is survived by a sister in law, Juanita Morris, Billings, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews including Mickey Hosman, St. Joseph, Mo.; Patrick Hosman, Young, Ariz.; Sandra Perkin, Ogden, Utah; Nancy Schwartzhoff, Sayre, Penn.; Margaret Holland, Sebastopol, Calif.; Richard Hays, Broomfield, Colo.; Margaret Montfort, Vancouver, Wash.; Mike Morris, Cowiche, Wash.; Nancy Morris, Yakima, Wash.; Jewel White, Reno, Nev.; Clyde Underwood; Santa Rosa, Calif.; Jim Flaherty, Yakima, Wash.; Jean Ehlers, Prescott, Ariz.; Barry Morris, Billings, Mont.; and Dick Morris, Shepherd, Mont.
