Elizabeth was born April 10, 1922, the fifth of thirteen children born to Cumian and Julia (Swafford) McTighe at their home in Maurine, South Dakota. As a young woman, she earned a degree in teaching and taught in a country school.
She married Juno Sundstrom June 16, 1946, and they had four children, David, Darrell, Carl, and Betty.
She worked many jobs through the years, moving from South Dakota to Texas, to Colorado where she retired from civil service, to Wyoming where she and Juno managed the VFW in Moorcroft for many years and back home to South Dakota.
She loved to read books, crochet, embroider, watch sports, and eat sweets! Because her husband and all three sons served in the military, she was a life time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veteran of Foreign Wars.
Elizabeth "Liz" Ann Sundstrom, 96, passed away October 15, 2018, in Spearfish, SD.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Juno Sundstrom; sons, Darrell (Emily), Tyler, TX, Carl (Marsha), Mount Clare, WV; daughter, Betty Trevino, Deadwood, SD; brother, Joe (Joann) McTighe, Faith, SD; sister, Amy Gruntmeir, De Smet, SD; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by son, David; son-in-law, Rhea Trevino; one brother; and nine sisters.
A kind heart and a beautiful soul will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
