Ellen Vivian Larive, 91, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Dorsett Health Care Center in Spearfish, SD. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD with Deacon Thomas Freece officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from noon to 9 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

Ellen was born July 22, 1919 at the family homestead south of Newcastle, Wyoming, to John and Khristine (Christinsen) Opitz. She moved to Lead SD, in 1920 and to Spearfish Valley in 1928. She graduated in 1938 at the Spearfish High School. On November 28, 1941, she married Edmond Larive in Broadus, Montana.

They moved to the family ranch east of St. Onge and ran a dairy farm for 15 years. They purchased the Royal Club in Beulah, WY, which they operated in the 1960's and '70's. Ellen owned the Unique Shop in Spearfish for several years. Later, she retired to Beulah where she had an antique store for several years before moving back to Spearfish.

Survivors include her brother George Opitz, Spearfish; granddaughter Tara Larive, Madison WI; one great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, and 2 brothers.

A memorial has been established to St. Onge Cemetery.
