Elton Leroy Traster, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2022.
Elton was born August 4, 1933, in Hemingford, NE, to the late Glen and Leona Traster. After graduating High School, he served honorably in U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon being discharged, he then moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, where he was employed by LG Everist at the Wasta Wash Plant.
Later in life, Elton had a passion for driving 18 wheelers and spent countless hours driving across the United States delivering many products for various companies. He drove for several companies in South Dakota and Colorado delivering gasoline. He was proud of the fact that he never mixed up the grades of fuel. After living in Grand Junction, CO, for some time Elton settled in Sturgis, SD.
Elton is survived by his children, Rae Smith (John) Barley, and Bruce (Wendy) Traster; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Cheryl) Smith, Shawn Smith, Shasta (Brandon) Humphres, Mandy (Rick) Gaitan, Tim Erickson, Matthew Erickson, Phillip Erickson, Jennifer (Steven) Herbert, and Jaimi (Adam) Courtney; eighteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
Elton loved doing crosswords in ink, scenic drives through the Black Hills, looking at the Grand Mesa, and riding motorcycles with his friend, Harold.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Leona Traster; sister, Delores Flint; daughter, Karleen Erickson; and one great grandson.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
