Sturgis - Elva T. Gapp, 96 of Sturgis, SD, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Sturgis Regional Hospital. She was born August 7, 1915 at Tyler, Minnesota to Henry and Elizabeth Thayer. The family moved to Beresford, SD in the fall of 1915 where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Beresford High School in 1933, and later that year she married the love of her life, Robert E. Gapp. In 1936 the couple moved to Sturgis where she has lived ever since. For many years she worked as a bookkeeper for Sturgis Meats until her retirement. Survivors include one Daughter, Susan (Roger) Chaplin, Sturgis; three sons, Donald (Marion) Gapp Sturgis/Coronado, CA, Gary (Marilyn) Gapp, Alamo, CA and Dean (Mary) Gapp, Sturgis. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, LeRoy, Roland and James; two sisters, Marguerite and Bette. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 30 at the United Methodist Church in Sturgis with Rev. Jenene Earl officiating. Interment will take place following the service at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis. A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church in Sturgis.
