Elwood R. Mutchler, 74, Newell, died Sunday September 3, 2006 at the Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.

Elwood was born November 25, 1931 at Newell, SD, to Ira and Leta (Duerfeldt) Mutchler. He grew up on the family ranch 4 miles east of the Sulphur Store and attended country school. In 1950 he graduated from Newell High School and returned to the ranch.

In 1970, Elwood began working all over western South Dakota for various ranches until his retirement.

Elwood loved to visit and could be found collecting things at rummage sales after he retired.

Survivors include his brother Neil (Margaret)_Mutchler, Spearfish; one sister Enid (Mervin Viken) McMains, Newell; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Thursday September 7, 2006 at the Newell Christian Fellowship Church in Newell. Memorials have been established to the Newell Christian Fellowship Building Fund and Hospice of the Northern Hills.
