Emma E. Egger, 87, of Sturgis, died Thursday, August18, 2011 at her home in Sturgis.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Fr. Arnold Kari officiating. Inurnment follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established.
Emma was born February 18, 1924 at Gackle, ND, to Edward and Mary (Schlenker) Suko. She grew up in Jamestown, ND, where she graduated from high school.
She married John Egger at Sturgis, SD, on December 18, 1950.
The couple operated the Belle Fourche and Sturgis livestock auctions sale barn prior to John being elected as the Meade County Sherriff. Emma worked as a gym teacher at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parochial school and in food service at the Meade County school system. She also worked at the Sturgis Memorial Hospital. Prior to John's retirement from the Sheriff's office, Emma enjoyed working at the coffee shop at the Meade County Courthouse. Above all, Emma treasured every moment with her family.
Emma was a member of VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Egger Cummings, Sturgis; one son Dan (Mary Jo) Egger, Rapid City; her grandchildren, Chanda (Austin) Petrick, Curtis (Tara) Cummings, and Jacob Cummings, all of Sturgis, Jon Egger, Rapid City, and Lindsey Egger, Gillette, WY; and 6 great grandchildren. Other survivors include many first, second, and third generation nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Egger; her father, Edward Suko; her mother, Mary Suko; four brothers, John, Jacob, Emil, and Raymond Suko; two sisters Anna and Alma; and one infant granddaughter, Stephanie Egger.
