Erma Varland, 96, formerly of Spearfish died at the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care on Thursday, December 24, 2009.

Erma was born to David and Dorothy (Uffelmann) Foos on July 24, 1913, at Sedgwick, CO.

Erma was united in marriage to Vearl Varland on November 15, 1955, in Sioux Falls, SD. They resided in Spearfish for most of their married life. Vearl died on October 8, 1991. Erma continued to live in her home until 2003 when ill health caused her to move to the senior care center.

Erma is survived by two brothers, Lawrence (Cleo) Foos of Nisland and Clarence and (Carol) Foos of Hermosa; two sisters, Elenora Hellwig of Rapid City and Dorothy (Clifford) Hauck of Utica, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Carl and Art.

Funeral services will be held at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Joe Hobbs and Mr. Mike Henry officiating. Burial will be at the Rosehill Cemetery in Spearfish.
