Ernie Rank died February 7, 2011 at the Weston County Manor at Newcastle, Wyoming.

A memorial service will be 1:00pm Saturday February 12, 2011 at the Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis, with Rev. Kyle Reinhiller officiating.

He was born the 5th of eleven children on November 8, 1918 in Buffalo County S.D. to Harry E. and Ada (Crist) Rank. He served in the armed forces in the South Pacific during WWII as first a medic and then in an engineering unit. He received recognition in the service for his part in helping two wounded men to safety. After leaving the service he became a professional dirt mover until he retired at the age of 73. He was very mechanically minded and inventive by nature.

Ernie was preceded in death by his wife Helena, great grandson, his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

Today the loss of this gentle man is mourned by his children David (Sandy)Upton, Rona (John) Barker, grandchildren Lisa (David) Denson & family, Travis (Colette) Upton & family, Chad Barker, Ginger (Ronnie) Anno & family, Dustin (Brenda) Upton & family, brothers Harold (Sofie) Rank, LeRoy (Phyliss) Rank, John (Nancy) Rank, sisters Melvina Slemp, and Sylvia (Harold) Huber, sister-in-law Nita Rank, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
