Erv was born September 19, 1932 at Lemmon, SD. He attended country school and after completing his education he went to work. First, working in road construction. He married Donna Seymour at Lemmon on February 22, 1953. The family moved to Whitewood after many road construction jobs. Erv worked for Lee's quarry and Coles Construction and then started the Whitewood Sand and Gravel Company. He owned and operated the company, with his family, for 10 years. There wasn't a heavy machine equipment that he couldn't master. Erv drove the Blade and Cat with great pride and joy, building many roads through the state of South Dakota. He loved fishing and hunting and spending time with his children, grand children and great grandchildren. He will be missed deeply by his family and friends. WE LOVE YOU DAD.

Erv worked as an equipment operator and the crushing operation for Campbell County, Wyoming until his retirement in 1998. After returning home to Whitewood, Erv took care of the Whitewood Cemetery for many years. He was also a deputy sheriff at one time. Erv was a member of the Whitewood Chamber of Commerce, the volunteer fire department, the Lions Club and helped build Hale Hall.
