Esther Ann Tveidt, 82, Sturgis, died Saturday August 19, 2006 at the Sturgis Regional Health Care Center.

Esther was born August 7, 1924 at Sturgis, SD, to Clarence O. and Lena L. (Spilker) Hanson. She attended the Merritt country school and graduated from Sturgis High School. After graduation she was the school secretary and mentored many students.

Esther married Lewis Tveidt on May 26, 1946 and they moved to the family farm in Pleasant Valley. Together, they moved to the Spilker family ranch in Boulder Canyon where they farmed and ranched until their semi retirement.

When Esther was young she enjoyed figure skating with the rest of the folks at the Tilford Skating Rink. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards with family and friends. Esther served as Key City Women's Association Secretary for many years and was active in the Sturgis VFW Auxiliary. She also maintained a great garden and would can for everyone's enjoyment.

Esther is survived by two children; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister in law, brother in law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis in 2001.

Funeral services will be Thursday August 24, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastor Jane Ireland officiating. Burial follows at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.

Memorials have been established to the Sturgis VFW Auxiliary and the Foothills Assisted Living.
