Obituary

Ethel Yvonne Ferguson was born March 27, 1933, in Rapid City, SD, to Tom and Marvel Shaw. She grew up on the ranch near Union Center and she loved her animals; horses, dogs, sheep, chickens, and cows. She attended rural school at Red Owl and then attended high school in Sturgis, SD, but graduated in Faith, SD.

She married Wiley Wesley Ferguson at Union Center on July 7, 1952. They lived on the ranch together and had two children, Monica and P.T. Yvonne and Wiley moved to Gillette, WY, and turned the ranch over to their daughter and son-in-law. Yvonne worked as a janitor at Hillcrest Elementary School in Gillette while assisting to care for her grandchildren, Matt, Kelly, and Ali until she retired and moved back to the ranch. She assisted in caring for her grandchildren, Karissa, Alyssa, Jaydon, Hunter, and Colter while enjoying her gardening and yard work at the ranch.

Yvonne, 83, Union Center, SD, passed away from cancer on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at her home with her family on the ranch near Union Center.

Survivors include her one daughter, Monica Wilcox, and her husband, Darrel, Union Center, SD; one son, P.T. Ferguson, and his wife, Kathy, Moorcroft, WY; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her significant other, Fritz Fonck, Union Center, SD; and Barbara Gales, Gillette, WY, who was raised by Yvonne and Wiley while they were still on the ranch.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, and brother, David Shaw.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 19, 2016, from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Central Meade County Community Center in Union Center with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Harold Delbridge will officiate. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery at Red Owl.

Memorials have been established to the Central Meade County Community Center and the Red Owl Hall.
