Eugene "Gene" Paul Huckins, 49, of Sturgis, SD, passed away on May 17, 2021, with his family by his side.

Gene was born February 12, 1972, to Jackie and Leon Huckins in Deadwood, SD. He graduated in 1992 from Sturgis Brown High School. He loved camping, hunting, and fishing. He played soccer, baseball, and was in Boy Scouts, and Webelos. At the age of 9 he joined a boxing team and won several Junior and Senior Championships Tournaments for his effort and hard work. He then went on to become a soccer and boxing coach. He also played pool the last several years.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Amy Huckins, Sturgis, SD; parents, Leon and Jackie Huckins, Sturgis, SD; foster brother, Jonathon Huckins, Sturgis, SD; several aunts and uncles, J.C. Huckins, Sturgis, SD, Lester (Carol) Huckins, Sturgis, SD, Marty (Beth) Huckins, Gillette, WY, Wesly (Carolyn) Huckins, Hulett, WY, Hazel Whaley, Colorado Springs, CO, Marlene Marlowe and Chuck Ward, Cheyenne, WY; and several cousins.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Verna Jean (Percy) Huckins, and Verna E. Ward (Issac) Head.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Boulder Canyon Convention Center in Sturgis, SD, with Pastor Rob Yantis officiating. Inurnment to follow at Bear Butte Cemetery.
