Eugene Paul
Taormina
Oct 27, 1952 — Apr 24, 2019
Rapid CIty
Eugene was born to Thomas and Bessie (Daniels) Taormina and raised in Baltimore, Md. He was their youngest of 3 children.
Gene's first love was God. Through Gene, three generations were touched and moved by the word, amongst countless friends and strangers. He enjoyed being in the Bible and always being able to provide an answer for those who had questions. Gene held true to his beliefs and convictions, never allowing the world to define his morality. Without doubt, we firmly believe we will see him again when we pass through Heaven's Gate.
His knowledge and love of good music spanned many decades. He loved to talk to anyone interested in the subject. His self-claim to fame was that he "had their greatest hits", whenever you named a musical group. It will be tremendously difficult to listen to the Stones, the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel or Janis Joplin without remembering the smile that would spread across his face.
He was careful and precise with his words and his actions. Everything he did was thought out thoroughly, planned, and executed to the expected outcome. As a result, he was our go to for home improvement projects. No time of night was too late to ask for an accurate measurement. He always had time to review our layouts and improve on them a bit.
He enjoyed visiting with friends and family back east online or on the phone, and he loved talking about the Raven's, the O's, the old days or more recently, genealogy.
We will miss his dumb dad jokes of the day and how he loved tormenting Peggy, his life's companion. It should be noted that she gave as good as she got. He was an incredibly decent and fair man, his kindness will be missed.
Gene was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas D. Taormina; his sister, Joyce K. Winters; and his parents.
He is survived by his sons, Anthony Taormina, Rapid City, South Dakota and Quentin (Amy) Taormina, Rapid City, South Dakota; nephews, Tom (Sandra) Winters, Chesapeake City, MD, David (Michelle) Winters, Baltimore, MD; and grandchildren, Clay Eldridge, Tristan Taormina, Dana Taormina, and Ryan Taormina all of Rapid City and Ben Taormina of Minot, ND.
As per Gene's request and lifelong convictions on ceremony, he will be cremated and wished that focus be given not to his passing but to his ascension into Eternity.
We will meet again someday.
