Obituary

NEW UNDERWOOD - Eula Marian (Marrs) Ferguson, a long time Wasta, Elm Springs area resident, died at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood, SD, on Monday, October 8, 2007, at the age of 93.

Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until 9:00 p.m. and will resume Thursday one hour prior to the funeral services at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Springs Cemetery.

Eula was born at Sturgis, SD, on April 30, 1914, to Charles Albert and Edna (Priest) Marrs. She grew up near Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1932. She attended Nurses School at Deadwood, SD, for a short time, until she realized she was allergic to substances they had to use when washing hands. On May 12, 1934, she married Glen C. Ferguson of Creighton, SD. They managed the Cummings Ranch on the Cheyenne River, which was owned by a Bank in Shreveport, LA. They bought the Boneita Springs Store and ran it for a few years, while Eula was the Postmaster. In 1943, they purchased a ranch five miles south of Elm Springs on Elk Creek. Eula lived on the ranch until she had her second stroke, which caused her to need assistance. She moved into the New Underwood Good Samaritan Center in October of 2001. She always had a garden and did canning of the vegetables raised. She also was a very good cook and baker. Eula liked to play cards, fish, and go camping a lot, which she and her family did. Eula was a member of the Wasta Rebekah Lodge when it was in existence, and was a past member of the Wasta Methodist Church. For the last several years, she attended church services at the Elm Springs Community Church.

Survivors include her son, Freddie D. Ferguson of Wasta, SD; two brothers, Ray Marrs of Whitewood, SD, and Aldean Marrs of Loveland, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen in 1988; her parents; one brother, Victor; and two sisters, Vivian and Lila Mae.

Memorials may be made to the Bingo Fund at the New Underwood Good Samaritan Center.

Playing Bingo was one of the few activities Eula could still do, and she truly enjoyed it.
