Eva Bertha
Pauline Sigman
July 30, 1933 – April 21, 2023
Eva Sigman, 89, of Sturgis, SD, died Friday, April 21, 2023, at Monument Hospice House, Rapid City, SD.
Eva Bertha Pauline (Aga) Sigman was born July 30, 1933 in Sturgis, SD, to Lawrence and Lora (Branch) Aga. She was raised on ranches around Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis High School. She worked as a waitress for Wiggs Café to put herself through her senior year of high school. After high school she worked for Sly & Freeman Drug Store until her marriage to Teddy Lee Sigman on August 10, 1952. Ted was drafted and went to basic training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Eva followed him there and worked in a drug store there while Ted finished basic training. When he was sent to Korea, she came home and went work for Mr. Urton at the Rexall Drug store until Ted came home from Korea. Ted was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado for three more months. She followed him there and worked in a drug store there for a short while.
After Ted's discharge from the service, they moved to a ranch in Whitewood Valley where Ted worked for Howard Meyer for a few years. Ted decided to go to college to become a teacher, so they moved to Sturgis.
Eva was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. Her Grandfather Joseph Aga helped build the original church building, and Grandma Clare bought the Communion Rail and was the first church organist.
Eva loved her family and enjoyed Christmas, family gatherings, card playing, dancing and singing that her Dad, brothers, uncles and others did on a regular basis. She liked making quilts for her family and embroidering tea towel sets for gifts.
She enjoyed their camper and large pontoon that they kept at Pactola Lake for summer fun until it became too hard to get in and out of the lake. They almost lost their pick-up truck getting it out the last time.
Eva and Ted had four sons, Timothy, Daniel, and Michael, and was saddened by the loss of Richard William who passed soon after birth.
Eva had five sisters and two brothers. Survivors include her husband, Teddy; and one brother, Raymond; sister-in-law, Karel Aga; sons, Tim (wife Julie), Dan (wife Annie), Mike (wife Michelle); grandchildren, Stephanie (husband Tito), Christine (husband Chris); great grandchildren (through Stephanie), Bella, Tino and Alex.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Richard; sisters, Connie, Carolynn, Joyce; and brother, Marvin.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Grace Lutheran Church, Sturgis, SD.
