Evelyn "Evie" Anderson was born December 12, 1924, to John and Johanna Flanagan at Alexandria, SD, the 12th of 13 children. She began a nursing career during the 2nd World War at Fort Carson, CO, and worked most of her career at the Fort Meade Veterans Hospital, retiring after 37 years of service.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Ervin Anderson on July 19, 1947, in Howard, SD. Together, they raised three children, Karen (Tom) Husband of Johnson Siding, SD, Alan (Susan) Anderson of Rapid City, SD, and Roger (Dawn) Anderson of Longmont, CO.
Evelyn, 91, Sturgis, died Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a series of illnesses.
She is survived by her children; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 pretty good grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way. She was preceded in passing by her husband of 61 years; her parents; and all 12 of her brothers and sisters.
Evelyn was easy to love, a gentle spirit, strong in her faith, pretty handy in a bridge game, and loved to talk sports and politics. She was a very special person in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., January 22, with vigil services beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis, SD. Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery, Monday, January 25, 2016, at 10:00 a.m.
