Evelyn was born May 20, 1916, to Hulda (Zimbleman) and George Salmen on a farm near Fullerton, ND. She attended the Fullerton Consolidated School through her junior year and then attended Oakes High School, graduating in 1934. She graduated from the Normal Industrial College in Ellendale, ND. She taught eight years in rural one-room schools in North & South Dakota.
She married Leon "Jack" Burroughs of Frederick, SD, on June 6, 1941. Two children, Jerelyn and James, were born to this union. In 1956, they moved to her family farm near Fullerton, ND, where they resided until they retired in 1981. Winters were spent in Mesa, AZ. Jack died in 1991.  Evelyn continued to make her winter home in Mesa, AZ. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting, playing cards, singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday school, and Bible studies.
In 1994 she married Merrill Willett. They spent their summers in Spearfish, SD, and winters in Mesa, AZ. Merrill died in 2006. In 2010, Evelyn moved to Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Center in Spearfish, and in 2017, to Dorsett Health Care.
Evelyn Burroughs Willett, 102, Spearfish, passed away on January 14, 2019.
Grateful to have shared her life are one daughter, Jerelyn (Ralph) Riemer, Spearfish; one son, James (Milly) Burroughs, Austin, MN; one sister, Anna Marie Doss, Savannah, MO; four grandchildren, Scott (Mary) Burroughs, Hopkins, MN, Amy (Jamie) Riedesel, Edwardsville, IL, Thomas (Elsbeth) Riemer, Boston, MA, and Sarah Riemer, Minneapolis, MN; and three great-grandchildren, Alexander and Meghan Burroughs and Damien Riemer.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Leon Burroughs and Merrill Willett; two brothers, Lloyd and Leslie; and two sisters, Frances and Eunice.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spearfish, SD, with Pastor Gene Bauman officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Maple View Cemetery in Fullerton, ND.
