Obituary

Everett Glen Kessler, 94 of Buffalo, WY, passed away July 15, 2018, at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo.

Glen was born September 21, 1923, in Okaton, SD, to Harvey and Nellie (Cox) Kessler. He was born premature and his older sister, Lorraine, gave him the nickname "Tiny" when she said "what a Tiny baby." That name followed him the rest of his life. He grew up on the family farm near Okaton with four brothers and two sisters, graduating High School in Okaton in 1942. Glen owned the General Store in Okaton, partnered in a car dealership and a gas station in Spearfish, SD, in the 1940's. He was in the Army during WWII and discharged in 1949.
He married Hazel Balo in 1951 and they celebrated 64 years together, raising 4 children: Patricia, Royce, Dalreen, and Melonie.

Glen and Hazel operated hair salons in Spearfish, Sundance, and Story as well as at local nursing homes. Simultaneously, they raised a few cattle, sold Conklin products, raised rainbow trout, and operated boarding homes in Spearfish and then in Story, WY, where they provided 24-hour care for veterans, foster children, juvenile delinquents, and elderly people.

Glen had a particular interest in hunting birds so he raised black Labradors, which he trained and sold to others for hunting and trials, which meant he had 2-3 to retrieve for himself and family hunters. He also loved hunting deer and antelope; and particularly loved fly-fishing near his home after a long day working in the garden. Glen always grew very large gardens and no one who came to visit during growing season left without a load of good things to eat.

Glen lived a Christian life, supporting the churches and their missionaries wherever he and Hazel lived. He also volunteered as an EMT for the Story/Banner Ambulance for several years. In his later years, he volunteered as a Foster Grandparent and reported it was the best pay he'd had.

He is survived by his sister, Esther (Art) Arp of Belle Fourche, SD; brothers, Harvey (Janet) of Mesa, AZ, Loyal (Inge) of Red Lodge MT, and Larry (Wanda) of Kearney, NE; his children, Royce Kessler of Colorado Springs, Dalreen Kessler of Buffalo, and Melonie (BJ) Arzy of Sheridan; his beloved grandchildren, Ann-Erika Whitebird of Santa Fe, Raina (Jamie) Cain of Kathleen, GA, Ethan Kessler and Aubrey Kessler of Colorado Springs, Charles (Victoria) Kessler, Erika Franks, and TC Arzy all of Sheridan; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was ever grateful to his close friends who helped him with projects and visited him as he got older.

Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; daughter, Patricia; sister, Loraine; brother, Lowell; daughter-in-law, Karen; and grandson, Shane.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Grace Chapel in Story, WY.
