Fadora Williams, 97, of Belle Fourche, passed away Sunday morning, October 30, 2011, at Belle Fourche Health Care.
Fadora was born March 7, 1914, to Harley and Ettie Curtis at their homestead near Colome, SD. She grew up and attended country school in the Colome Community. She attended Colome High School and then attended one year at Springfield Normal School and received a teaching degree. She taught one year at Greenwood on the reservation, then two years at a country school. Her students included her younger siblings; sister Elizabeth and brother Bob Curtis.
On December 21, 1935 she was united in marriage to Lee E. Williams of Lucas, SD. To this union a son Robert Lee, and a daughter Marietta Marie were born.
In 1938 they moved to Seattle, WA, and returned in 1943, where they farmed. In 1946, they moved south of Winner, SD, where they bought their own farm. Fadora taught rural school for 8 years and had her children and three nieces as students. In 1955 they moved to Gregory and started Williams Furniture and Appliance Store. Fadora kept busy as bookkeeper, housewife and grandmother.
They sold their business in 1974 and traveled to all 50 states of the union and Canada, settling in Glendale, AZ in 1977. In 1984 they moved to a retirement community in Youngstown, AZ.
After Lee's death in 1995, Fadora moved to Hickory House in Spearfish, SD, and then in 2005 she moved to the Belle Fourche Health Care Center.
Survivors include her daughter, Marietta Reid of Hot Springs; her son and his wife, Bob and Janice Williams of Belle Fourche; six grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Josephine Gaskill of Waterloo, IA, and Emma Carithers of Youngtown, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; her parents; three sisters; and two brothers.
She dedicated her life to the Lord at the age of 24 and diligently kept those vows for the rest of her life. Her family is thankful for her steadfastness in her love of the Lord.
She will be missed by her family, extended family and a host of friends.
Visitation with the family present will be Friday, November 4th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 5th at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7th at Graceland Cemetery in Burke, SD.
In appreciation of her excellent care, a memorial has been established to Belle Fourche Health Care.
