Fern V. Caldwell, 96, Sturgis, died Friday, April 23, 2010, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care.

Fern was born January 14, 1914, at Ardmore, SD, to John Steven and Lydia (Campbell) Serres. The family moved to Dupree where Fern grew up and attended school. She married Albert Caldwell June 10, 1962, in Rapid City. Fern worked for several years at the Fort Meade VA Canteen.

Fern was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Sturgis Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Ann (Ted) Miles, Spearfish, and Elaine (Ken) Bader, Tempe, AZ; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Delma Phillis.

A memorial has been established to CASA of the Northern Hills.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 23, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Rev. Michael Fox officiating. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
