Obituary

Fidelia Beatrice Carriers was born June 14, 1922, at Castle Rock, SD, to Alexander and Emelda (Monty) Carriers. She attended country school at Castle Rock. She enjoyed climbing the Castle Rock Butte with her sibling, riding horses on their sheep ranch, and playing piano by ear. She was a member of various groups who played for a lot of dances over the years. At the time of her death she was the only living survivor of all those groups.

On March 30, 1942, she married David L. Tompkins where they made their home on the G.P. Foster farm east of Newell. They raised sheep and farmed. She was a great cook, gardener, and canned wonderful things. She had also worked at the Newell Sale Barn. To this union was born five children, David, Linda, Robert (died as an infant), Wanda, and Kathleen "Kathy." They divorced in 1960. Fidelia married Robert W. Kosola, May 24, 1962, in Deadwood, SD, and remained in the Newell area where she worked 25 years at various restaurants including the popular "Cove Café."

She was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was also a member of the NVN Center and card clubs while living in Newell.

After her husband, Robert, died in 2002, she moved to Spearfish where she fully retired and became an active member of the Spearfish Senior Center and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
