Florence V. Maples, 93, Sturgis, and formerly of Sioux Falls, died Friday, November 21, 2008, at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.
Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Denzel Nonhof officiating. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Florence was born November 26, 1914, at Sioux Falls, SD, to Harry and Mabel (Clark) Bessler. She grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School. She attended Nettleton College of Business in Sioux Falls and went to work for area businesses.
Florence married Ralph Maples at Sioux Falls in 1944.
She was employed for 30 years by the City of Sioux Falls where she retired as the Deputy City Treasurer in 1977. After retiring, she was active in volunteer work for the senior center in Sioux Falls. She enjoyed knitting, dances at the Senior Center in Sioux Falls, bingo, and long walks.
Florence moved to Rapid City in the early 90's and to Sturgis in 1994, to an assisted living facility.
Survivors include her son, Tom (Bev) Maples, Sturgis; grandchildren, Monica (David) Dixon, Bethesda, MD, and Mike (Wendy) Maples, Choteau, MT; three great-grandchildren, Maddy and Mack Dixon and Calvin Maples.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, William and Bradley Bessler.
A memorial has been established to the Center for Active Generations in Sioux Falls.
