Floyd was born to Carl and Rosanna (Fonck) Casteel on December 28,1947. He went to school in Sturgis until 8th grade, when he quit to help his mom. He married Janice Hayford on August 26, 1971. From this union came two children.
Floyd joined the Army in 1967. He was stationed in Korea where he met many friends. Once discharged in 1969, he began working. Floyd worked at a gas station, Whitewood Post and Pole, and was last self-employed with Floyd's sewer cleaning and handyman service. Being self-employed took a toll on his back and he became disabled in 1993.
Floyd loved to fish, visit with friends, and tinker in the garage, making everything from a potato gun to picture frames. The last couple years, his favorite pastime was his grandkids. He enjoyed playing checkers, talking about his military days, and just teaching them valuable life lessons.
Floyd Allen Casteel, 71, died Friday, March 15, 2019, at his home in Sturgis, SD with Alicia and Janice by his side.
Floyd is survived by his daughter, Alicia (Mark) Harris and grandchildren, Michael and Jaxson Harris all of Whitewood, SD, and Janice Casteel of Whitewood, SD; son, Chris (Tamsin) Casteel and grandson, Luke of Texas; nephew, Jerry Casteel, Jr. of Bullhead, AZ; along with several more nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clifford, Jerry, and Kenneth; sister, Bertha Mae Proctor; and aunts, Carolina Brown and Ada Belle Morgan.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, also at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating.    Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
