Maxine Huckins died in Sundance, Wyoming after a short illness.
Frances Maxine Huckins was born in Alva, Wyoming on June 2, 1921 to Sara Orpha Berry and Henry Irving Bear. Maxine felt grateful for the support of her family especially her mother and her sisters and brothers as she grew up in Northern Wyoming. She married Robert Bob Huckins on November 19, 1937. They lived most of their married life in Upton, Wyoming. Maxine attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota for a short period hoping to become an elementary teacher. She was the mother of three sons in whom she took great pride. She is survived by one son, Alvin and Marsha Huckins and her devoted daughter-in-law, Ruby Huckins.

One of her greatest joys was being granny to her eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She also had many wonderful relationships with her nieces and nephews. Maxine will be remembered for the many ways she supported and cared for her family.

She loved to garden and grew enough food to share with her entire family and neighborhood. She particularly enjoyed cooking and was well known for her amazing chicken noodle soup. She was a rancher and spent many years raising cattle and a variety of chickens, turkeys, peacocks, geese, ducks and whatever new variety of birds she could order each spring. Maxine was a quilter and left a legacy of quilts for each member of her family. Maxine will be remembered for the quiet strength she demonstrated in meeting lifes challenges and the extraordinary ways she supported her family.

Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, two sons: Ron and Bill Huckins, her brothers: John Bear and Edward Marenda, her sister, Jeneva Cooley, and two grandchildren: Robert Huckins and Audrey Nading. She is survived by her sisters: Mary Hill of Sturgis, South Dakota and Dorothy Stalbaum and her brother, Edgar Bear.

A private internment ceremony will be held with her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, cards which share stories of her impact on others would be appreciated by her family and can be mailed to 1412 Highway 116 South, Upton, Wyoming 82730.
