Francis P. Larive, 85, Hot Springs, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at the Hot Springs VA Medical Center.
Visitation will be Sunday from noon until 9:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard.
Francis was born September 10, 1923, at St. Onge, SD, to Arthur and Matilda (Lloyd) Larive. He grew up in Spearfish and Deadwood. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Francis married Betty Marie Smith. They lived in Hot Springs where Francis was the owner of F & B Oldsmobile for many years.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Francis enjoyed studying and sharing history. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and a good baseball game.
Survivors include three sons, Calvin (Connie) Larive, Hot Springs, Stan (Debra) Larive, Port Orchard, WA, and Francis Lee Larive, Buffalo, SD; two brothers, Clifford Larive, Rapid City, and Lloyd Larive, Scottsbluff, NE; five sisters, Rosemarie Konola, Clifton, CO, Patricia Duncan, Douglas, WY, Alice Pattinson, Spearfish, Julia Roadifer, Spokane, WA, and Shirley Frasier, Spearfish; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; one sister, Elsie; and three brothers, Robert, George, and Donald.
Memorials have been established to the Miss SD Pageant and to American Legion Baseball.
