Freddie "Fred" Lee Morrison was born on March 2, 1938, in Johnson City, TN, to Walter Preston and Bonnie Kate (Richards) Morrison. He attended Stemmers Run Junior High School.
In 1956, Fred joined the United States Air Force, and thus began his twenty-year career in the military. He worked mainly in aircraft maintenance and management, and while at Ellsworth AFB, he worked ground shelter heating and diesel.
In December of 1959, he married Rosemary Mabry, and together they had two children, Freddie Lee Morrison, Jr., and Russell Vernon Morrison. The family moved to Rapid City and he and Rosemary later divorced.
On September 5, 1975, he was united in marriage to Dora Rega, and they would spend the next 44 years together building a life and a family. Through this union, he gained two more children, Cheryl Rega and Joe Rega, whom he loved and cared for as his own. After retiring from the Air Force, he attended Florida A&M University and Pinellas Vocational Technical Institute for a degree in AC and refrigeration, and also completed a welding course at Stevens High School in Rapid City. After completing his courses, he went on to work for Trans Maintenance, continuing on in aircraft maintenance, and retired after twenty years from the Laborer's Union.
Between work and family, Fred sometimes found time for his many hobbies. From working on cars and anything mechanical and tending to his yard and garden, to camping, fishing, and playing cards and games (especially at First Gold in Deadwood), Fred loved it all, and simply enjoyed living life to the fullest. Above all, Fred Morrison was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, and friend. He never met a stranger, and everyone who knew him, loved him. He was always very involved in his children's lives, even though he was active military. He took great pride in helping to raise his granddaughter, Shannon, and great-grandson, Ayden. He was constantly teaching them the basics of life, all while having fun.
Freddie Morrison, 82, of Rapid City, died Friday, March 27, 2020, at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital.
Fred leaves behind, until we all meet again, his devoted and loving wife of 44 years, Dora of Rapid City; daughter, Cheryl Rega of Rapid City; granddaughter, Shannon Whitney of Rapid City; great-grandson, Ayden Whitney of Rapid City; grandson, Bryan Morrison; adopted daughter, Lisa Vandermate of Rapid City; sisters, JoAnn Ciquero of NJ, and Jacqueline "Jackie" (Grant) Edwards of PA; nieces and nephews, Tyron Krause, Tamara (Krause) Rogers, Diana (Ciquero) Tesone, Albert Ciquero, Debra (Ciquero) Nevit, Kenneth Ciquero, Dina Marie (Ciquero) Evans, Debra (Grant) Caladera, Roger Grant, Susan (Edwards) Borkowicz, and Michelle (Edwards) Keesee; and his many extended family members, Vivan Clark, Rhonda Butler, William Wright, Pam Wright, Jim Whitney, John and Fuji Williams, and Doug Sternhagen and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Bonnie; his sons, Freddie, Russell, and Joe; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and William Krause; and brothers-in-law, Waldon Edwards and Albert Ciquero, Sr.
Committal services for both Fred and Dora will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020, at Black Hills National Cemetery.
