Gar was born January 2, 1937, to Myron and Edna Brengle in Buffalo, SD. He attended grade school and high school in Harding County, SD, and Brookings Aggie School, in Brookings, SD.

On February 28, 1955 in Rapid City, Gar married the love of his life, Helen Smith. To this union three children were born, Deb, Terry, and Shannon. In 1966 Helens brother Randy, joined the family.

Gar loved ranching, and did so for many years. In 1977 he went to work as a heavy equipment operator in Gillette. Gar was an expert blade operator, and could build anything with a blade. He enjoyed taking people around the Gillette area, and showing them what he had a hand in building. He continued doing construction work, until 2004, when he retired because of his health.

Gar loved and was very proud of all of his grandchildren. He thought they were all perfect and would tell anyone who would listen.

He was quite excited, when in 2005; he and Helen renewed their wedding vows. He took great pride in their marriage and the fact they had been married over 54 years and thought his Sweetheart was a wonderful woman.

Gar, liked to tinker around with his old tractors, and recently restored his John Deere, and with help of his friend Gus, (Gar was the advisor) his old Chevy truck. He worked diligently on his yard and garden. He made unique clocks and picture frames out of old barn wood. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and sharing a good laugh.
