Edmund Gustafson
March 28, 1948 – June 9, 2025
Gary Edmund Gustafson (Gus), 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Blackhawk, SD on Monday June 9th, 2025.
Gary was born in Huron S.D. on Easter Sunday March 28, 1948, to LuVern Victor Gustafson and Alice Virginia (Andersen) Gustafson. He graduated from Huron High School in 1966. It was during his high school years that he earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
Following his high school graduation, he attended Huron College, graduating in 1970 with a degree in Business Administration and an emphasis in accounting. He went on to join the US Air Force, spending the next four years on active duty in the Finance Department at Ellsworth Air Force Base. He spent another two years in the Army National Guard.
He started working for the Civil Service in 1974 at Ellsworth AFB and spent the next 37-1/2 years at various jobs on the base. 1974 was also the year Gary started investing in the stock market, beginning over 50 successful years of investing.
He very much enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He went on three African hunting safaris; once to Tanzania, then to Zimbabwe, and finally to the Republic of South Africa.
He was always willing to provide investing advice and guidance for all who listened. He will forever be remembered for sayings such as "God's will, nothing can be done", and "A fool and his money are soon parted". He will be missed by many Friends who spent time over the years hunting, fishing, and golfing with him.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents LuVern Victor Gustafson and Alice Virginia (Andersen) Gustafson.
He is survived by his life partner Joan MacMillan, Brother Curt Gustafson, Sister Connie Miller, Nephew Eric (Beth) Gustafson, Great Nephews and Niece Christopher, Jacob, and Carly, special friends Mike (Teri) Farland, Cindy (Chuck) Anderson, Mark Freese, Kevin Kouf, Steve Sewell and a host of other Friends that enjoyed spending time with him.
