Gary Lee Plaggemeyer, 67, of Sturgis, SD, died, Wednesday, November 14, 2012, peacefully at home, in his sleep, surrounded by his very loving family.
A memorial service will be held Monday, November 19, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Rev. Denzel Nonhof officiating.
Gary was born in Linton, ND, to John and Katherine (Garrison) Plaggemeyer on June 19, 1945. He grew up in Pollock, SD. Gary moved with his family to Sturgis when he was a teenager. On July 18, 1964, he married Julie Conway. They made their home and raised three daughters in Sturgis. Gary worked at the Homestake mine for 31 years. After retirement, they lived in Elephant Butte, NM, for nine years and enjoyed traveling around in the south.
Gary is survived by his wife of 48 years, Julie; three daughters, Marion (Terry) Horst of Sturgis, Jodi Newton of Spearfish, and LeAnn Henrie of Independence, MO; four brothers, James of Kadoka, Neil of Oregon, Larry of Sturgis, and Lloyd of Missouri; one sister, Dorothy Miller of Sturgis; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
