Gary was born May 11, 1944, in Sioux Falls, SD to Rosella (Tokheim) Pletan and Burnette Pletan.

Gary married Pam Ortman of Canistota June 14, 1969.

Gary spent his childhood in Canistota, SD, and graduated from Canistota High School. He graduated from Huron College in 1967. After graduation he taught school in Clear Lake, SD, for several years. He started a furniture business in Clear Lake in1975. Later, Gary and his brother Roger owned and operated a furniture store in Watertown.

Gary Allen Pletan, 74, passed away June 9, 2018 at his home near Sturgis, SD.

Gary is survived by his wife, Pam and two children, a son, Lane and his wife Michele from Billings MT; and a daughter, Kara and her husband Kyle Munier from Livingston, MT. He is also survived by three special grandchildren, Tomiyah, Austin, and Braydon; brother, Roger and Wanda and family from Nemo SD. His tight knit family also includes a number of close nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gayle.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis, SD, with Pastor Kris Garlick officiating.
