After battling cancer for sometime and using all his energy living his life in his own way, Gary P. Schmit died at age 50 on the 16th of May, 2011.

Gary was born February 7, 1961 at Deadwood, SD, to Peter and Shirley (Butler) Schmit.

Gary lived all of his days doing exactly what he wanted, from the banks of Kodiak, Alaska to the ice flats of Canada. He was a man of all trades. Being educated in Lead-Deadwood, he became a true craftsman of carpentry and enjoyed a passion for the wild side with a kick of dry humor daily.

Father, Grandpa, Brother and friend to many. He is survived by daughter, LaRessa Luze, 29, and her 3 daughters, Heidi, 8, Leah, 6, Lillie, 3; daughter, KaSondra Luze, 21, and her son Trajun, 2; son, Michael Luze, 20; brother Jim Schmit of Maud, OK; brother Mark Schmit of Sturgis; sister Annette Gantz, Hulett, WY and sister Patty McCormick of Spearfish, SD.

Gary was preceded in death by his mom, dad, two brothers, a niece and life long love and mother of his children Linda Luze.
