Gen was born December 24, 1931, in Belfield, ND, to Joseph and Anna (Houska) Luptak. She attended rural school through the 8th grade. On October 4, 1948, she married Lawrence S. Hecker. In 1959, she and Lawrence moved to Fargo, ND, where they were both employed by NDSU. After retirement in 1982, they moved to Rapid City, SD, to be closer to their sons and grandchildren.

Gen had many interests. She loved fishing, camping, and was an avid Denver Broncos fan, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Genevieve Eva Hecker, 84, Sturgis, died Friday, October 7, 2016, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care.

Genevieve is survived by three sons, Joseph (Beverly) Hecker, Rapid City, SD, Curtis (Paula) Hecker, Winfield, KS, and Dennis (Lauryce) Hecker, Trinidad, CO; one daughter, Donna Hecker, Fort Walton Beach, FL; 19 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence; three sisters, Edith Stransky, Vicky Beehan, and Emma Frank; two brothers, Albert and Charles Luptak; and one infant granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Belfield, ND. Inurnment will follow at the St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery.
