George was born in Lipp Township, Emmons County, ND. His mother, Martha (Werlinger), married Eremio "Shorty" Genoff and shortly after their marriage, Shorty adopted George on November 18, 1927. He was raised on a farm east of McIntosh, SD, and attended school in McIntosh.
He went to work for the railroad in 1944. Shortly after, he was drafted in the Army and served time in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Roseina Abell (Merkel) on July 17, 1950. They lived on the Merkel farm for a short time. They rented and lived on his parent's farm for several years before they purchased a farm south of Watuga. They purchase another small farm next to theirs in the 70's. He retired from farming in 2005 and sold the farm to his granddaughter and her husband.
George Genoff, 92, Rapid City, died Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Fort Meade, SD.
George is survived by his daughter, Susan (Harwood) and stepson, Charles Abell. George had 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose in 1999; his mother and father; four brothers, Joe, Tony, Mike, and Louis; and his sister, Betty.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2019, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be Tuesday, September 24, at 9:00 a.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
