George Jr. Harwood, 85, of Loma Linda, CA, died Monday, November 9th, 2015 at the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Loma Linda. He was born on September 19th, 1930 to George and Zilvia Harwood on a Farm in Elm Springs, SD. He served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict. George was a dedicated employee at Homestake Gold Mine for 32 years. When he retired, George purchased a motor home and traveled the 50 states and eventually settled in San Bernardino, CA where he has lived for the last four years. Survivors include a sister, Zora Barry, Rapid City and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Zilvia Harwood; brothers, Alvin and Virgil Harwood and sister, Erma Santistevan, Wilma Eisenbraun and Zella Couch. Services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis with Reverend Randy Sturzenbecher officiating. Interment will follow at 11:00 am at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Military honors will be conducted by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard.
