Huck
June 26, 1937 – March 21, 2016
George Joseph Huck, Sr., was born June 26, 1937, to Ralph and Katie (Hutmacher) Huck in New England, ND, and married Ruby Gardner on November 26, 1959, in Sturgis, SD. George worked for Homestake Mining Company of Lead, SD, for 26 years. As an active union member, he was proud to serve on the grievance committee and two contract negotiating teams. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus for Saint
Patrick's church in Lead and he was elected to the Lead City Commission and served as the interim mayor of Lead for a short time.
After his retirement, the couple moved to Spearfish, SD, and George worked many jobs that fulfilled his love of farming. In later years, he and
his wife worked as campground hosts for Hannah, Rod and Gun and Timon campgrounds in Spearfish Canyon, fulfilling Ruby's dream of spending
entire summers camping.
George, 78, of Spearfish, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016, in hospice care at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Ft. Meade.
He is survived by 4 brothers; Carl, Ralph, David and Raymond. 12 sisters; Tillie, Jennie, Margaret, Rose, Pauline, Arlene, Linda, Donna, Carolyn,
Josephine, Cindy and Noreen. His spouse Ruby and 6 children and their spouses, Theresa Huck and Jason Winsor, Jeff and Leanne (Roher) Huck,
Steven and Wanda (Edwards) Huck, Roger Huck and Cheri Tripp, Dennis and Qiu Ye Huck, and George Jr. and Vicki (Brooks) Huck; also 14
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and more nieces and nephews than we can count!
George was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Katie Huck; two brothers; and three nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in George's name with the Ft. Meade VA Hospital's hospice division. Donations will be used
to keep the hospice rooms stocked with anything needed for the comfort of families that are using the facility.
