George Kane, age 93,  of Sturgis SD, died Thursday June 19th, 2025 at Aspen Grove Assisted Living.

A celebration of life will be held by the family later this summer.

George was born in Lemmon, SD on November 7th, 1931.  He was raised on the Kane family farm near Lemmon.  He married LaVina Weil in  1955. They had 3 children together LaDene 1956, Glen 1957, and Lanette 1961.  The couple divorced in 1981.

In 1982, George met and married Margie Stalley.  Margie brought 2 sons, Tom 1959, and Bob 1961 to add to George's family.  He and Margie were married for 28 happy years until her death in 2011.

George farmed the family homestead until 1972, when he became the state of South Dakota Commissioner of School and Public Lands.  He then became a real estate broker and owner of Great Plains Reality until he retired.

George was active in politics and the Democrat party.  George loved his family, fishing, golfing, inventing, and fixing things. He also loved traveling with his wife Margie.  Together they traveled from Europe to Australia and so many places in between.

George is preceeded in death by his wife Margie, daughter LaDene, son Glen, his parents Glen and Olive, brother Lynn, and sisters June and Carol.

He is survived by his brother Harvey, his sister Julie, his daughter Lanette, and step sons Tom and Bob. Eight grandchildren Misty, Richard, Adam, Melissa, Dustin, Jared, Jenny, and George, twelve great-grandchildren Slater, Jadon, Skylar, Tristan, Tyson, Taylon, Justus, Austin, Brayden, Adelyn, Mairin, and Hudson, three great great grandchildren Ivy, Tate, and Zyla.

How lucky we are to have someone that makes saying good bye so hard.
