Lyons
February 21, 1946 – April 2, 2016
George was born February 21, 1946, in Saratoga WY, and was raised in Pine Bluffs, WY. He graduated from P.B. High School in 1964. George and Sandra (Smith) were married in 1967. Together, they raised two sons. George worked his entire career in service to rural electrification, having worked for Wyrulec in Lingle, WY, Wheatbelt Public Power District in Sidney, NE, and Polk County Rural Public Power District in Stromsburg, NE, from which he retired in 2012.
Following retirement, George and Sandra moved to Rapid City to be close to their son and family. George was a devoted grandfather and truly enjoyed his time with family.
After moving to Rapid City, George accomplished his goal of becoming a Rotarian. He was an active member of Rushmore Rotary Morning Club. He spent some time as a C.A.S.A. volunteer.
George belonged to First United Methodist Church and was serving on the newly created leadership council at the time of his death. He was a member of Stromsburg Lodge No. 126 A.F. and A.M. He will always be remembered for his wit and keen sense of humor, and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
George S. Lyons, 70, Rapid City, died Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Marietta, OH.
He is survived by wife, Sandra of Rapid City; son, Robb of Mountain View, CA; daughter-in-law, Autumn Lyons and grandchildren Cyrus and Mallory, all of Sturgis; brothers, Chuck (Marietta) Lyons and Bob (Diane) Lyons, all of Pine Bluffs, WY; and brothers-in-law, Don (Norene) Schell of Sacramento CA, and Roger Smith of Niagara Falls, NY. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as a great-great-niece, four great-great-nephews, and several cousins of his generation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, B. E. Lyons and Lucille Lyons; sister, Winifred Schell; and his son, Brent Lyons.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Rapid City. Inurnment will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers, the family has designated a memorial to the Rushmore Rotary morning club.
