Obituary

George Elton Millin, 76, Whitewood, died Monday, August 18, 2014, at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, August 22, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastor Denzel Nonhof officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard providing military honors. Visitation will be held at Kinkade Funeral Chapel on Thursday, August 21, 2014, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

George was born on March 14, 1938, in Sturgis to George and Maud (Lettau) Millin. He grew up in Sturgis where he attended school and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1956. From 1956 to 1961, he worked for Gram's Sawmill. In November 1961, he entered the U.S. Army and following his discharge in 1963, he returned to Sturgis where he worked for Sturgis Redi Mix. He then married Darlene J. Brieher in Sturgis on June 24, 1967. Following their marriage, they moved to Whitewood where they continued to live. In 1972, he went to work for Whitewood Post and Pole until 1979. He then worked for American Colliod, and in January 1981, went to work for Homestake Mining Company. He met Raynette, his loving companion and friend. She brought love and joy to his life and he enjoyed fishing and spending time with her family.

He was a member of the Whitewood Fire Department, the National Rifleman's Association, and the Sturgis American Legion. He also took great pride in caring for the Whitewood Cemetery. His many favorite things were camping, fishing, hunting, four wheeling, coffeeing in Whitewood, auctions, and just cowboying" in life.

George is survived by his daughters, Calyne (John) Starling, Randle, WA, Darceen (Len) Mitchell, Whitewood, Sheryl (Ron) Holman, Whitewood, Jacque (Rod) Williams, Spearfish, and Twyla (Todd) Millin Hansen, Pierre; eleven grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Darlene; brother, Hugh; an infant son; and an infant sister.

A memorial has been established to the South Dakota Lung Association and VA Hospice.
