Gerald Wayne Powers, also famously known as "Jerry" and or "Butch", died June 29, 2023, in his home at the age of 78 years-old.

Gerald was born on March 12th, to Ralph and Martha Powers in Hot Springs, South Dakota in 1945. Until the age of 8 he lived at Igloo with his sister while his parents working the war at Ordnance Depot. Afterwards he traveled and lived in numerous locations in South Dakota including Pierre, Vale, Whitewood, Deadwood, and eventually settled in Sturgis where he graduated high school in 1965.

Gerald enlisted in the National Guards and served for 14 years. Afterwards he eventually found himself at Homestake gold mine in Deadwood until he was able to enjoy early retirement when the mine closed in 2002.

In 1967, Gerald married Sharon Remer, and together they had their 2 wonderful children Stephanie and Justin. In 1982, Gerald remarried Deb Matthews. Collectively they all created a happy and loving family until he unfortunately had to leave his best friend and love of his life of 41 years to a 2-year battle with cancer.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Deb; brothers-in-law, Randy and Ron; ex-wife, Sharon; daughter, Stephanie; son, Justin; grandchildren, Sierra, Justice and Nathan; and great- grandchildren, Jaxon, and Rayne; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving family and friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Martha, his sister, Viola May, sisters-in-law, Cheri, and Dee, mother-in-law, Sylvia, along with many good friends who all collectively helped make his life fulfilled and worthwhile.

The Powers family will be hosting a memorial gathering/potluck at the Lions Park Gazebo Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 4pm-7pm. All are welcome to come.
