IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerald
Rogers
September 4, 1947 – February 12, 2026
Gerald John Rogers, of Deadwood, SD, passed away peacefully in his home on February 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Mobridge, SD, to Pauline and Jim Rogers, Gerald grew up in Isabel, SD, with the wide-open spaces of the prairie in his heart. From a young age, he learned the value of hard work, family, and a deep respect for the land. He shared his childhood with three siblings, forming bonds that carried him throughout his life.
The Black Hills were more than just home to him—they were part of who he was. He and his wife, Cheryl, built a home and family together in Deadwood, SD. He found his greatest peace hunting, camping, and in the saddle, riding horses and herding cattle across the hills he loved so dearly. He instilled a love of the outdoors and hunting in three generations of Rogers’ kids and he taught a lot of life lessons driving deer through the woods.
Those who knew him best will remember his steady presence, his quiet strength, and the way he seemed most at ease under an open sky.
Above all else, his greatest joy was his family. He rarely missed a chance to chase down a sports game, especially when one of his 6 sons, 14 grandchildren, or 13 great-grandchildren were on the court. Whether quietly keeping stats in his notebook or talking about the game afterward, he showed up with pride, enthusiasm, and a heart full of love.
His faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. Over the last five years, he faced significant health challenges with remarkable courage, grace, and unwavering trust in the Lord. Even in difficult moments, his faith remained strong, and he was a quiet example of perseverance, hope, and steadfast belief to all who walked beside him during that season. He cherished the time with his beloved wife, Cheryl, who spent countless hours caring for his every need, especially during this time. On the days his faith wavered or his health faltered, she was the still waters the Lord gave him.
Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, strength, and faith will continue to guide and comfort those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pauline (Walker) Rogers and James Rogers. He leaves behind his wife, Cheryl (Corkins) Rogers, siblings Donnie (Theo) Rogers, Marie (Kurt) Hartman, Barb (Rocky) Mattson, sons Travis (Suzanne) Rogers, James (Laurie) Rogers, John Rogers, Mike (Amy) Rogers, step-sons Charlie (Tara) Sewell, Tony Sewell, 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
There will be a private family funeral service. A public celebration of his life will be open to family and friends on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 3 pm at Muley Hill Lodge. In lieu of flowers, the family plans to have memorials donated in his honor to the Days of '76.
