Gertrude Hutter, 86, Sturgis, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Judy's Assisted Living in Belle Fourche.
Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until 8:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
A rosary will be held Thursday, May 28, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery.
Gertrude was born at home in a two room log cabin near Plainview on January 8, 1923, to John and Anna Mary (Tambornino) Hutter. She attended school at Plainview and later at the Hamm School near Bear Butte through the 8th grade. In 1937, Gertrude won the American Legion Essay Contest, which was special for her since she disliked public speaking.
Gertrude was housekeeper for Father Feubach for over 30 years. She nursed him until the end of his life as he was dying of cancer.
She was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi parish, St. Francis Circle, and St. Francis Altar Society.
Survivors include four sisters, Theresia Cassidy, Sturgis, Mary Baker, Belle Fourche, Anne Beer, Huntsville, AR, and Agnes Hutter, Tyndal, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Stephen; and one sister, Frances Young.
A memorial has been established to the Msgr. Leo Feubach Burse.
