Glen Franklin Hardy, 82, Whitewood, died at his residence on Friday, July 6, 2007.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 10, at the First Presbyterian Church in Whitewood with Pastor Steve Agan officiating.
Burial followed at the Whitewood Cemetery.
Glen was born May 30, 1925 at Sturgis to Roy and Ruth (Casteel) Hardy.
He was raised on the family ranch near Alkali and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1943. Glen returned to help on the ranch for a few years in the meantime he married Jerolyn Joan Mallory at Sturgis on Oct. 1, 1944. The couple lived at the ranch for a year and Glen worked for South Dakota Game Fish and Parks where he planted shelter belts.
Glen sold insurance for Rushmore Mutual Life in Rapid City for several years. The family moved to Great Falls, Mont., where Glen established an insurance agency for Rushmore Mutual. They returned to Rapid City and moved to Sturgis where Glen worked for Matkins Motors. In 1968 they moved to Whitewood and Glen worked for Wheeler Lumber. After he retired, Glen was employed by Hills Materials for several years.
Glen was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shrine. He was also a member of the Western South Dakota Buckaroos and a charter member of the Custer Trail Riders. He loved his horses, riding, polo and trail riding. He loved to cook and garden and supported and loved his many grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Jerolyn Hardy, Whitewood; one son Bill (Sally) Hardy, Pierre; two daughters, Janell Lamphere, Whitewood, Sally (Bill) Cross, Sturgis; one brother, Leroy Hardy, Sturgis; one sister, Delores Beehler, Hermiston, Ore.; 10 grandchildren Holly Hardy, Heather Hardy, Bridger Hardy, Amy Bradley, Hillary Mahaffey, Tyler Lamphere, Tanner Lamphere, Seth Cross, Clay Cross, Cally Cross Baxley; and nine great grandchildren; also three step great grandchildren, and one step great great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews; also one sister-in-law, Jackie (Clifford) Johnson, Whitewood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Edna Ketelsen, and one infant grandson.
