Obituary

Glen Russell McCoy Glen R. McCoy (Rusty) passed away at his home in Newcastle on May 20th, 2021 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was the youngest of eight children born to Lee and Alice McCoy. Rusty grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School in May 1970. He enlisted in the Army immediately after graduation. While home on leave, after basic training and AIT, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Patricia Ann Butts (Patty), on November 21, 1970. On December 1, he left for duty in Aschaffenburg, Germany, serving with the 9th Engineers. In June of 1971, his wife and newborn son joined him there and spent two years in Germany together. While in Germany they made many friends in which they've kept in touch with over the years. Mike Cameron (Carol), was one of the special friends in particular that Rusty and Patty kept in contact with throughout the years. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Rusty worked at the sawmill in Newcastle for a time. Then in 1974, he started work for BNSF Railroad, where he retired in 2010. Rusty worked as a laborer, foreman, and track inspector. Rusty loved to spend time with family hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. His favorite place was in the Beartooth Mountains, North of Cody, Wyoming.

Rusty could sit for hours and tell stories about all the time the family spent around Hunter Peak and the Clark's Fork River. He was a passionate craftsman, tinkerer, and professional fidgeter. To his family and friends he was known as a teaser. If he liked you, you got teased and pranks pulled on you. He was always busy with woodworking, welding, fixing things, and gardening. He loved having projects lined up and would not start one until it was thoroughly planned and thought out. Sunday dinners with family and friends were very special to Rusty and he will be greatly missed around the supper table. If he considered you a friend, you were family.

Rusty is survived by his wife, Patty; son, Lee Allen (Tammy) of Upton; daughter, Tricia (Bryan) Taylor of Newcastle; sister-in-law, Kathy McCoy of Gillette; aunt, Laura Bock of Osage; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren (number 9 on the way); several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, his mom and dad, Lee and Alice McCoy; sisters, Mary McCoy, Ila Lee Cornielius, Alice Smith, Edith Inich, Anita Dial, and Jane Olson; brother, Kennith McCoy; and nephew, Benny Dial.
